About

All around the country, the transition towards becoming a sustainable society is gradually underway. But “gradually” is not enough. Climate efforts must be fast tracked if we are to limit the impacts of climate change. Building public support for a rapid and fair green transition is critical to achieving this goal, and this demands a powerful shared vision of what is possible.

However, news stories about the climate crisis, green transition, and net zero tend to focus on the nature of the threat and the different policies up for debate. We don’t often see stories of progress in the news or hear about new ways of living and working from our friends, family, or colleagues.

It is easy for people to feel that nothing is changing for the better.

Yet quietly, across the country, individuals, communities, organisations, and businesses are getting on with building a future that is better for the environment and for society.

For change to happen, we must be able to grasp these stories of the transition in action. We need to see that it is everyday people who are shaping and driving a different future.

At the Local Storytelling Exchange, we find these stories and shine a spotlight on them, sharing them widely across local, regional, and national media, digital channels and offline events to show “this is what the transition looks like”.
